We at Henderson Associates Architects would like to bring you up to speed on what we’ve been building in the old HAA mixer. We will continue sharing these updates with you quarterly so you can see what’s going on, and growing on, in our mutual metro east communities and beyond.
COMPLETED:
222 Artisan Bakery — Edwardsville, IL
April spelled springtime delight with the return of Artisan! Now in their new digs for several months, Artisan continues to make the most of this re-design. Pop in and see them on St. Louis Street for breakfast, lunch time, or snacktime, if you haven’t already.
Samara’s International Market — Edwardsville, IL
Open to the public as of mid-July 2025, Samara’s market underwent a remodel of office space into a bustling market serving up international spices and foods. We loved helping Tarek and Deena bring their dreams to life! Find them at 501 St. Louis Street or online.
Glen Carbon Centennial Library — Glen Carbon, IL
Back in the spring, we wrapped up a re-roofing project as well as bidding for a new solar array; the library completed the installation of the Solar Array in August and is experiencing a new level of energy savings. Keep on the lookout for the next phase of our library project, where we will begin preservation by updating this history-brimming building in the heart of Glen.
Preloved — Edwardsville, IL

Preloved, an up-and-coming franchise, approached us about helping them to open another location of the popular consignment/thrift shop. We were more than happy to help, and in record time. It is so heartening to see another new community-based business open in our thriving metro.
IN CONSTRUCTION:
St. Mary’s Parish Addition — Edwardsville, IL
The Lobby and Narthex addition, plus a renovation of a number of the existing administration spaces, are now almost complete. Exterior work is nearing completion as well, with the new sign and lighting currently being fine-tuned. Partnering with Boeker Construction, we expect the renovations will conclude this month (October).
The Goddard School Addition — Springfield, IL
Construction is ongoing at the Goddard School in Springfield, where we are doubling the area of the existing school’s classroom space as well as adding a gym and outdoor play areas. Approximately 50% of the construction is complete, with many of the building systems installed and wall board close behind. Pay attention, this one will be 100% finished before the last bell (a.k.a. pretty soon!).
National Memorial of Military Ascent — Grafton, IL

Spearheaded by Grafton Mayor (and veteran) Mike Morrow, the National Memorial of Military Ascent (or NMMA) is taking shape along the bluffs of Grafton, Illinois. In May, just in time for Memorial Day, the inspiring “radio man” statue was unveiled, and in July, our own Jamie Henderson presented some renderings to Governor Pritzker and state officials gathering to visit the site when a Seal Team Assault Boat (STAB) made its way “home” to Grafton. Artist Laura Linn continues to create, literally and figuratively, a colorful future for the museum and grounds, through both interior and exterior watercolor paintings. Signage that doubles as a preview to the museum—and to the anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 2026—also went up late this summer. We are so pumped for the NMMA to bring history alive for visitors! And, if you are as excited as we are and want to become a founding member, please follow the link here and consider a donation to the NMMA project.

Byway Discovery Center — Godfrey, IL
Our museum project will be a tribute to and enhance the story of our local land, people, and their relationship with the rivers. The museum will highlight the history and outdoor adventure aspects of this 33-mile stretch of the great river from Hartford to Pere Marquette. We are excited to work with Great Rivers and Routes to realize this long-awaited vision. Underground plumbing, footings, and foundations have recently been completed. Although this phase of the work can be hard to see, the importance of creating a solid foundation from which the structure rises cannot be overstated. Next is when the real fun starts, with the kick-off of erecting the steel as we reach skyward! In the meantime, you can see a Byway flyover of the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower expansion project, via Great Rivers and Routes, here.
At left, you’ll see a recent update on the Byway center, when geothermal energy drilling was being completed.
Lake Street 31 Development — Aurora, IL
Hurrah!!! Lake Street 31 Development is finally completed! An old Carson Pirie Scott department store (sometimes known as Carson’s) has been transformed into indoor, climate-controlled storage for our longstanding client Storage of America. The building underwent an extensive interior and exterior redesign and, in addition to the storage business, is filling up with retail, office, and restaurant tenants.
IN DESIGN:
Schulte Supply — Edwardsville, Illinois
We are hard at work designing a new warehouse and showroom for one of our oldest clients. It is thrilling to see their business thriving and ready to expand.
Ministries Unlimited — Troy, Illinois
As you can see from the rendering featured at the top of this post, we recently completed design for this community fixture so that they can expand their current operation to assist the area’s poor and homeless. They are now in the fundraising stage of the project, and we encourage you to take a look at the resources they offer and consider helping. Read more about the mission of Ministries Unlimited here.
